The holidays are coming and with them the moment to enjoy all those plans that we have been waiting for for a long time. Among all of them, cultural leisure will always be a great option to escape from our routine, traveling through art to bygone eras and multiple geographical enclaves. From Setdart we encourage you to spend a vacation full of art with a selection of some of the most interesting exhibitions that this summer’s cultural agenda offers us within our borders:

1) “Georgia O Keeffe” until August 8 at the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum: For the first time, a retrospective of one of the greatest exponents of American modern art arrives in Spain. Through more than 80 works we will be able to immerse ourselves in the creative universe of the artist following her evolution, from her beginnings as a pioneer of abstraction to her iconic floral paintings and her New York views

2) “The human image: art, identities and symbolism” until January 16 at Caixa Fórum: In this case, Caixa Fórum proposes a trip back in time where, through different periods, geographies and styles, we can examine how the human being has represented himself throughout history. The tour reveals the conceptual and symbolic transformations that, from prehistory to the present, have determined the image of the human body in art.

3) “The colors of the foc. Hamada- Artigas ”until October 3 at Mnac: The bond and mutual admiration between two of the great potters of the twentieth century, stars in this magnificent exhibition whose works dialogue with each other to discover the impact that the art of Japanese ceramics had. In parallel, the exhibition highlights the ties that, in addition to Artigas, artists such as Joan Miró established in relation to the movement mingei recovery of Japanese folk art.

4) “Chagall. Els estats de l ‘ànima. “Until October 28 at the Diocesan Museum: The spirituality of Chagall’s painting is the starting point of this exhibition. The intercultural dialogue between the two Western religions that is established through the 39 works that make up the show, reveal the transcendental meaning that the Jewish artist gave to art as a vehicle to achieve universal peace between nations and religions.

5) “Picasso ibero” until September 12 at Centro Botin: The proposal represents a magnificent opportunity to investigate the influence that Iberian art had on the work of the genius from Malaga. The more than 200 works are structured into 3 areas that make up the tour: the first dedicated to contextualizing and making Iberian culture known, the second focused on the initial impact it had on Picasso since he discovered it in 1906, and finally, the imperishable trace that is glimpsed in each of the periods of his later work.

6) “Los locos años 20” until September 19 at the Guggenheim in Bilbao: Integrating movements such as the Bauhaus, Dadaism or the new objectivity in different disciplines such as architecture and design, a dialogue is established that gives light to the innovative and plural spirit that marked the decade of the 20s. The 300 works that include painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, cinema and design, reveal the formal diversity that flourished in the arts, thanks to the social transformations and the desire to live that arose in reaction to the catastrophe of the World War.

7) “Creative friendship. Benjamin Palencia and Federico Lorca” until October 17 at the Federico Garcia Lorca Center: The ties that are very often established between poets and painters are reflected in this exhibition that explores the link between two of the most representative figures of the generation of 27: the painter Benjamin Palencia and the poet Garcia Lorca. The exhibition highlights how the common aesthetic paths that they discovered with the emergence of surrealism, united the interests of one and the other to a greater extent.

8) “Odaliscas. From Ingres to Picasso” until September 10 at the Palacio de Carlos V: For the first time in an exhibition, the artistic theme of the odalisque is presented to us from a double perspective. The exceptional ensemble in which figures such as Ingres Delacroix or Matisse stand out, highlights the fundamental role they played in the aesthetic experiments under which modern art was conceived. However, it is also through them that we can see how much of the prejudices that society has projected towards women were perpetuated
